About
Our Branch
The Cheshire Branch of the RSCDS was formed in 1984 by Isobel and Jim Fyfe, both
qualified RSCDS teachers, who were teacher and musician at Nantwich & District Scottish
Society and Northwich & District Scots' Society.
The inaugural meeting was attended by 39 people, and a Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and
three committee members were elected. The Branch had four fully certificated teachers and
two with preliminary certificates. Before then there had been several Scottish Societies in Cheshire offering Scottish
Country Dancing, many of them affiliated to the RSCDS, but there had been no Branch of
the RSCDS in the area.
Since 1984 several Branch members have trained and qualified as teachers, some taking the
preliminary exams, others going on to do their final exams. |

Membership declined during a period when the founding teachers were incapacitated but an
excellent replacement teacher, Kathy Morgan, joined the Branch and led it until
July 2003, when she retired as the main teacher.
The Branch currently has
four fully qualified teachers, Diane Rooney, Kathryn Tunstall, Paula
Wright and David Horsman.
Weekly classes were held at the Three Links Hall, Crewe, for
twenty two years but in November 2006 we
had to find a new location for
our weekly classes and they are now held at The Community
Centre, High Street, Tarporley.
See Photo Gallery for pictures of
our last night at the Three Links Hall. |
Membership currently stands at 60 and we are always pleased to
welcome new members, whatever their level of experience.
In addition to our weekly classes, the Branch holds Day Schools and dances with live music.
The high spot of our calendar is our New Year Ball.
Teams have also taken part in Festivals at Southport, Leeds
and York and several members attend the RSCDS Summer and Winter Schools at St.
Andrews and Pitlochry.
